
Summary
The Pharmacologist is a scientist who studies the effects of drugs on living systems. The Pharmacologist will work with a variety of drugs, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs, and illegal drugs, to understand how they work and how they affect the body.
Responsibilities
- Conduct pharmacological research. This includes designing and conducting experiments to study the effects of drugs on living systems.
- Identify and characterize new drugs. This includes screening potential drug candidates and determining their mechanism of action.
- Develop new drug delivery systems. This includes designing new ways to deliver drugs to the body, such as oral tablets, injectables, and transdermal patches.
- Study the metabolism of drugs. This includes understanding how drugs are broken down by the body and how they are excreted.
- Study the interactions of drugs. This includes understanding how drugs interact with each other and with other chemicals in the body.
- Educate the public about drugs. This includes providing information about the risks and benefits of drugs, and how to use them safely.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Pharmacology or a related field
- Experience in pharmacological research
- Strong knowledge of pharmacology and physiology
- Experience with experimental pharmacology techniques
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
