
Summary
The Drug Discovery Scientist is responsible for the design, synthesis, and testing of new drugs. The Drug Discovery Scientist will work with a variety of scientists, including chemists, biologists, and pharmacologists, to develop new drugs that can be used to treat diseases.
Responsibilities
- Design and synthesize new drug candidates. This includes using molecular biology techniques to identify new targets for drug development, and using medicinal chemistry techniques to synthesize new compounds that target those targets.
- Test the efficacy and safety of new drug candidates. This includes using pharmacology techniques to test the effects of new drug candidates in cells and animals, and to assess their potential side effects.
- Collaborate with other scientists. This includes collaborating with other scientists in the drug discovery team, as well as with scientists in other disciplines, such as clinical pharmacology and toxicology.
- Stay up-to-date on the latest drug discovery techniques. This includes reading research papers, attending conferences, and following online resources.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in a related field, such as chemistry, biology, or pharmacology
- Experience in drug discovery
- Strong knowledge of organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry
- Experience with in vitro and in vivo drug screening
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
