Measure Compliance by ROI, Not Just Cost Containment

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

compliance1Most companies have a simple goal when it comes to compliance: manage risk while spending as little as possible. These efforts don’t contribute to the top line, so it seems the best you can do is to keep expenses under control. This sort of conventional thinking, however, comes at the cost of future opportunities. Plan and manage your compliance program effectively, and you could measure the impact in terms of ROI, not just cost containment.

Traditional approaches to compliance involve checklists. You do what’s necessary so you can check each box and hope not to erode your margins substantially along the way. The increased workload, though, means that you either have to bring in some extra help (at a high cost) or divert your employees’ attention from higher value. In either case, the result is that you derive less value from your employees.

Of course, this is what happens when compliance increases your cost to do business … but now you have a new option! It is possible to assure compliance, make the most of your team, and measure the results in terms of a return on your compliance investment.

KGTiger’s BYTE services can help you optimize your HR operation – using lower-cost resources to execute the repetitive, time-consuming and low-impact work associated with compliance program. This frees your internal resources, in whom you have invested heavily, to focus on your jobs. Don’t let compliance projects get in the way: get them done!

You’re not in the compliance business, are you? Don’t let it consume your operation!

Explore New Territory … with a Map

newmarketstmr“New” is the hardest part of growing any business. A new product line, new geographic region or new market is inherently daunting – it’s almost like building a new business from scratch. Part of the problem is a lack of understanding about the talent pool. After all, you need to be sure you can find the people you need who can drive the results you want to achieve. If you know the talent market before you enter, you can save yourself the pain of making a strategic misstep. The right decisions, based on accurate information, can also accelerate ROI – your actions will pay for themselves faster.

Recently a large corporation, because it was convinced the United States couldn’t support its manufacturing business, decided to launch a major operation offshore, In developing its business plan, the company previously identified a short list of competitors, industries and universities from which to attract talent.

Based on our preliminary investigation, we determined that the client artificially constricted the size of the potential talent pool through its understanding of available talent. Our solution was to help turn our client’s puddle into an ocean. We did this by reviewing job specifications, determining the knowledge, skills and experience needed, and conducting extensive research about talent sources. We were able to help the company identify a more expansive pool of talent from which to draw.

Stop Chasing Trends: Effective Recruiting Never Stops

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

meetingCorporate recruiting, as it’s generally practiced today, involves chasing trends. All is quiet when hiring freezes are triggered by dismal economic conditions. Then, when the market gains a bit of confidence, there’s a feeding frenzy for top-tier talent. It’s easy to lose under these conditions, especially when you see a competitor pick up that industry superstar you’ve been eyeing.

Why didn’t you win? Because you just weren’t ready.

Most recruiters think speed is the problem when this happens, lamenting, “If only we’d gotten there faster …” In reality, the entire process is to blame. The key to winning the war for talent is to recruit constantly.

Hiring happens periodically; recruiting is ongoing. Today, with unemployment at 10 percent nationwide, corporate recruiters should be readying themselves for the next rush, which could begin as early as this summer, according to some estimates. It’s not too early (it’s never too early) to get started.

Your Recruiting “Bat-Phone”

Monday, December 14th, 2009

phonecallEven the best of plans can fall victim to the unforeseen. A candidate gets lost en route to the interview – or forgets the on-site contact’s name. Coffee spills on directions when the candidate makes a sharp turn during rush hour. We all know that Murphy carpools with job candidates, and his Law will not be ignored. Unless you plan to have the candidate picked up and chauffeured to the interview, a certain amount of risk will always remain (and even then …). These are the quirky situations that can derail the hiring process and cost you a great new employee.

Rather than leave even the slightest detail to chance, we’ve developed a recruiting hotline, a solution that reestablishes the lines of communication with a candidate immediately. Dead cell phone batteries, soggy printouts and mistyped data won’t be a problem as long as your candidate can remember: 800 KG TIGER. When the candidate’s in a bind, all he has to do is call this number, and the situation can be fixed.
